This bag is given each year to the 3000 mothers of new babies born in the maternity wards of the five Western Cape hospitals the project supports. If we add the 3000 babies and all those persons involved in knitting, sewing, machining, supplying and funding, together with hospital staff then Hug a Baby touches over 7500 people a year, with an unpaid staff of two and a team of many.
Giving the Hug a Baby bag to the needy can positively influence not just the mother but all those involved in the supply chain who are generously giving their time, skills and money to make the Hug a Baby the project it is. Please read the rest of this website if you would like to get involved in some way.
It would be nice to give the bag to every mother of a new baby in South Africa, but with over 900,000 being born each year we would need 100,000 knitters! However, if you would like to start to help in your local State hospitals, contact us. The very least we can do is share the lessons we have learned over the years which may encourage you to support the mums and babies where you live.
Then you too can enjoy the privilege of serving the needy.
Much love Fran
