The Hug a Baby Project now has two objectives:
Farm workshop in full swing
The bags the mothers receive have created a constant demand for blankets, vests, flannels, bags and newborn clothing.
To create product security in a market of ever increasing prices we have started to manufacture these items for ourselves. We now have one very successful workshop on a farm and another soon to start.
We have run a Machine school and have taught 20+ women and girls to use Industrial Sewing machines. Because of local recession there is no work so we have suspended the school. In 2017 1nd 2018 we shall be seeking work so these women can be employed.
For the bags we produce our own Liquid Soap, body lotion and Petroleum Jelly cups. Our increased buying power is also enabling us to significantly reduce costs. Most importantly, Hug a Baby simply touches the hearts of people, both in South Africa and overseas, whose donations of money and goods have kept Hug a Baby vibrant and energized. There is no State aid available for what Hug a Baby does.
Every effort has been taken to deliver a bag of excellent standard and quality. Contents are neatly sealed for hygienic purposes and to prevent theft.
When available other baby items are also included in the bag like talc, baby oil and nearly new babygrows.
